In December, the month of Chanuka, the Lauder School of Prague celebrated its receipt of a new Sefer Torah. The scroll was acquired by Daniel Vaněk, a parent of a Lauder school pupil, for the benefit of the school’s Jewish development.

The school marked the occasion with a formal celebration which included communal leaders, students, and an educational film about the writing of a Torah scroll and its significance. The Torah scroll will be read during the morning Shacharit service at the school, during holiday celebrations and in Judaism lessons.

In addition, the school received approval to expand and renovate its third and fourth floors, thus providing more space for the school’s bustling student population. Other December highlights included a joint Menorah lighting, an educational video, and a Hanukah Charity Bazaar to raise funds for restoring forestry in Israel.
