Berlin Schools Visit Prague’s Jewish Community
The 5th and 6th grades of the Lauder Beth Zion School in Berlin visited Prague and the Lauder Gur Aryeh / Ohr Chadash Jewish Community Schools in Prague on the 18th and 19th of June 2013.
It was the first time that our students traveled to a foreign city and country. Prague was chosen because of the vicinity, and also as a possibility to meet other Lauder students. The students had a wonderful time in Prague; they visited all the sightseeing in Prague, but of special attraction and interest was the visit at Lauder Gur Aryeh / Ohr Chadash Jewish Community Schools in Prague.
Dr. Pavlat, representative of The Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, and Mrs. Dejmalova, headmistress of the school, were wonderful hosts, and the students from Berlin were warmly greeted by the students of the school. We enjoyed a kosher breakfast and lunch together. The children communicated in every possible language: English, Hebrew, and even German was used.
In the evening, we were guests of the Jewish Community of Prague. We took this opportunity to present a small gift to Lauder students for their wonderful reception.
After the dinner, our male students joined the local Minyan at the synagogue. The first contact between our pupils and Lauder Gur Aryeh / Ohr Chadash Jewish Community Schools in Prague was very meaningful for us, and we hope that we can reciprocate in Berlin.
