Covid Mask Contest: Lauder e-Learning Schools Turn Uncertainty into Fun

During the pandemic, the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation’s e-Learning Schools turned uncertainty into fun, by challenging students ages 4-18 to create their own masks, using artistic expression and creativity. Students across the Lauder Foundation’s e-Learning schools in Europe participated in the contest, and the Jewish Museum of Berlin featured a collection of masks from Germany’s e-Learning school for public display.

First Place Winner, Julia Jureńczyk from Poland

The Mask Contest received around 100 wonderful submissions from over 35 cities in Central and Eastern Europe, spanning the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation’s e-Learning schools. The event entailed two stages. First, on the national level, Lauder e-Learning students presented their art works to a panel of national judges. Next, in stage two, finalists competed internationally, and the international final winner, Julia Jureńczyk from Poland, was chosen by the honorable Mrs. Jo Carole Lauder.

Julia’s mask creation is titled, “What a Wonderful World.” The young student explains, it is, “Created with fresh live flowers, which symbolize our hope to go back to the colors, normality and aroma of beautiful flowers”.

The Ronald S. Lauder Foundation congratulates Julia and all the artistic participants for their incredible talent and creativity. Additionally, the Foundation thanks the panels of judges and the honorable judge, Mrs. Jo Carole Lauder, for their insight and dedication to this program’s success. Special thanks also go to the Jewish Museum of Berlin for its collaboration in hosting the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation Mask collection.
