Following a legacy of respect and care for elders, the Lauder Javne Jewish Community School’s Fifth Grade students visited the Alma Street Senior Home residents, at the Balint Jewish Community Center, and entertained the seniors with Hanukah songs, dance and circus performances.
The event came as part of an activity-filled December that included a High School Film competition, a classroom exhibition on rural life of Hungarian Jews and the development of Hungarian Jewish culture, and a charity project benefiting the children of the Csobánka elementary school.
Other highlights include two of the school’s music teachers receiving nominations for the Prima Primissima award, a visit to the Hungarian Heritage House – with stories from Éva Fábian, a Hebrew Translation Competition, a book-reading event, and meetings with contemporary film directors Gábor Reisz and Simon Szabó.
